The new season has started well, our orchard has lots of lovely blossom which is very special for us as we have quite a large number of varieties all normally flowering at different times.
We have made our first attempt at top-working trees, hopefully allowing us to increase the number of Dorset Golden Ball apples we have.
The newly formed Melplash Cider Festival was a lovely day, great to see our cider making friends and of course Skimmity Hitchers. The peer judged competition went very well for us, coming home with places in each class and the Championship cup. West Milton Cider Club our community group of cidermakers did well too, with first prize in the Medium class.
Last weekend was the start of our festival season. Firstly came Ven Fest over at Lychett Minster followed the next day by the Dorset Knob festival. Both uniquely Dorset and good fun was had by all.
An exciting first for us this year we will be attending the Cider Salon in Bristol on 8th June. This is a new style ticket only event for connoisseur cider drinkers with the very finest cidermakers offering their bottles for tasting.
Many more events to come over the summer, we look forward to seeing all of over the next weeks to share this year’s very tasty cider and a good gossip.
